This subadult female was the first bird we caught during our capture season in 2013, mid-morning on November 4th, using a bow net. We estimate she was around four years old at the time of her capture. Interestingly, Kooshtéeni is blind in her right eye, which is almost completely scarred over from what appeared to be an old injury. Thus, her name is adapted for the Tlingit phrase for “blind”, l kooshtéeni. We lost communication with her transmitter in early summer 2015. It is possible that she dropped the transmitter or the battery permanently failed.
